Occupational Therapist – Acute Care

Schedule / Job Type

Contract | Days | 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM with one-hour lunch; one weekend day per month required

Key Responsibilities

• Evaluate, plan, coordinate, administer, and supervise occupational therapy treatments to restore functional abilities, relieve pain, and prevent or minimize disability using client-centered care and evidence-based practice
• Provide age-specific OT services including therapeutic exercise, splinting, modalities, and self-care training across all patient age groups
• Complete all required patient care documentation — including evaluations, daily notes, re-evaluations, discharge summaries, and Medicare forms — accurately and within established timeframes
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members including physical therapy, speech therapy, nursing, and physicians to coordinate patient care
• Supervise Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants (COTAs) and OT student interns in accordance with the state OT practice act and Medicare guidelines
• Provide supervision of Swing Bed activities and participate in departmental quality assurance, policy review, and community outreach initiatives

Required Qualifications

• Active Occupational Therapist license issued by the State of Nebraska
• Certification to administer Electrotherapeutic Agents, Deep Thermal Agents, and Superficial Thermal Agents
• Active Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued through the American Heart Association
• Reliable personal transportation is required — rideshare services are not available in this location

Preferred Experience / Skills

• 1–2 years of experience in a rural health setting preferred; new graduates will be considered
• Experience supervising COTAs or OT students
• Familiarity with Swing Bed programs and rural acute care environments
